The thread below has many useful tips on how to clean and sterilize the MEA. We have started to build up what appears to be cellular remnants on our MEA and I would like to apply some sort of protease solution. The thread below suggests Terg-a-zyme. I intend to use this method but the pH of 1% Terg-a-zyme (the suggested concentration) is 9.5. Is this going to damage the standard 200/30 MEA we are using? Should I try and make it pH 7.4 by adding HCl before using it? Has anyone had any long term/repeated experience using Terg-a-zyme? I don't want to inactivate the protease by changing the pH but I also don't want to damage the electrodes.

Thanks

Dear kmawad,

we do use Terg-a-zyme in our lab as well and it works really nicely.
With incubation times of several hours - overnight we did not yet observe any negative impact on the electrodes over multiple cleaning cycles. We did not adjust the pH but just used the 1% solution.

Greetings
