Neuroblastoma cells Empty Neuroblastoma cells

Post  Escargueil Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:41 pm

Hi,

We are recording signals form SH-SY5Y cells culutred on the MEAs. The cells are fine and well differentiated but we are not sure what size the spikes should be and if they could be smaller than noise.
Anybody has experience with neuroblastoma cells on MEAs?
Many thanks in advance for any information

Christine

Dear Christine,
I didn't record from neuroblastoma cells myself so far, but in general, if the signal generated by the cell is similar to that of a regular neuron, the extracellular signal recorded with the MEA only depends on the distance to the electrode. So, if you have a cell sitting within ~50µm around the elecrode, you should see a signal between 50 to 500µV, depending on the distance.
