MC_DataTool .raw conversion

Post  Britni on Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:27 pm

I'm sorry if this information is already out there somewhere but I somehow couldn't find it. I was wondering about the format of the .raw files exported from MC_DataTool.

Specifically...

1) Are the data points from all the channels interleaved?
and
2) What order are the channels saved in?

Thanks!

Britni

Dear Britni,
you can find info about the data conversion in the help file of MC_Data Tool, under the topic "Data into Binary Format". The data points are not interleaved (if I understood correctly what you meant), and the order of the channels is defined by the order of the selection list. By the way, is your question connected to request from Daniel Rathbun about the binary format?

By interleaved I mean.. saving the data first ordered by time and and then by channels (not the other way around). For example, if there are two channels, in the binary file the data would be presented in the order: channel1_datapoint1, channel2_datapoint1, channel1_datapoint2, channel2_datapoint2.. etc. I guess this is what you mean by multiplexing?

And yes, we're both trying to figure out the best way to import the data into Neuroscope, and I think this way will work.

Thanks for all the help!

We mean the same when we say multiplexing and you say interleaved: All channels from one timestamp and then all channels from the next timestamp. Order is as posted by Frank: as shown in the selection list.
