Recording from cells on coverslips flipped onto MEA

Has anybody tried recording from cells cultured on a coverslip by flipping it on the MEA?

I just tried with both a 200/30 arrays, and a 3D arrays, and tried putting a relatively heavy weight on the coverslip to hold it in place.
Perhaps I still need to coat the arrays with PEI?
Or will the distance always be too great and the coupling too poor?
Has anyone else tried and had better luck, or is my attempt futile for some other reason?

If this works, it would allow for recording from cells grown in different conditions, with fewer arrays needed for culturing and waiting in the incubator!

This sounds like a good idea, but I think the nutrient and oxygen supply could be a problem you should put into consideration. If cells are grown on the MEA dish, there is a high surface area. If you have the glass surface from below and from the top, there is almost no exchange.

Of course this is only from a theoretical point of view. Maybe some MEA users can add information based on their experiences as well.

My concern has been mushing of cells and scratching of MEA surface.

To resolve the above 4 concerns, I will try culturing neurons on tissue
culture membranes, at the expense of losing visual clarity.It is just that this method seems so obvious, that somebody must have tried it before!

NBs grow nicely and treatment with agents such as retinoic acid cause differentiation into a type that does demonstrate action potentials in response to electrical stimulation (via an STG2004).
